The world of rock music witnessed a wave of unexpected reunions in 2024, with none more shocking than Oasis.
Since their infamous breakup in 2009, Noel and Liam Gallagher of the “Wonderwall” fame had remained estranged, engaging in a near-constant war of words through media and social platforms. Over the years, rumors of reconciliation would occasionally surface, only to fizzle out amidst renewed insults—Liam’s habit of calling Noel a “potato” being a particularly famous jab.
However, in August, the seemingly impossible happened: the Gallaghers announced they had reconciled and were reuniting Oasis for a worldwide stadium tour. The tour is set to kick off in the U.K. in July 2025 before making its way to the U.S. in August. While fans still have to wait to see Oasis take the stage, the announcement alone sent shockwaves through the music world.
Another major comeback came from Creed, who reunited for the first time in over a decade. Known for hits like “Higher” and “With Arms Wide Open,” the band had been inactive since their last performance in 2012. After teasing a reunion in 2023, they officially returned in April 2024 during the Summer of ’99 concert cruise.
Creed followed their cruise performance with a full-scale reunion tour, which included their largest-ever headlining show and a stop at Madison Square Garden. Their year also began on a high note with a star turn in a Super Bowl commercial for Paramount+.
Coachella 2024 proved to be a hotspot for reunions as well. No Doubt, led by Gwen Stefani, played their first shows in nine years, thrilling fans with classics like “Don’t Speak” and “Just a Girl.” Sublime also reformed, featuring original members Eric Wilson and Bud Gaugh alongside Jakob Nowell, the son of late frontman Bradley Nowell.
The nostalgia train didn’t stop there. Slayer made a brief return to the stage for two festival appearances, despite officially ending their farewell tour in 2019. R.E.M. reunited all four members for the first time in nearly three decades during their Songwriters Hall of Fame induction, delighting fans with an emotional performance. Meanwhile, the Sex Pistols staged a partial reunion with three of their original members, joined by Frank Carter in place of Johnny Rotten.
From iconic stadium rockers to punk pioneers, 2024 was a banner year for legendary bands finding their way back to the stage, proving that time—and perhaps a little forgiveness—can rekindle even the most fractured relationships.
