2025 Grammy Recap from Big Hitties Radio

The 67th Annual Grammy Awards were held on Sunday, February 2, at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles. Comedian Trevor Noah hosted the event for the fifth straight year, which began with a tribute to Los Angeles in light of the recent wildfires. Local band Dawes, affected by the fires, performed alongside John Legend, Sheryl Crow, St. Vincent, Brittany Howard, and Brad Paisley, covering Randy Newman’s “I Love L.A.”

Throughout the night, tributes to Los Angeles were prominent. Billie Eilish donned a Dodgers hat during her performance of “Birds of a Feather,” while Chappell Roan, who later won Best New Artist, performed “Pink Pony Club,” her ode to the city. Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars delivered a heartfelt duet of “California Dreamin’.” The ceremony promoted fire relief donations with QR codes and ads supporting local businesses impacted by the fires.

A special tribute honored the late Quincy Jones, featuring Herbie Hancock, Stevie Wonder, Cynthia Erivo, Lainey Wilson, and Jacob Collier. They led a singalong of “We Are the World,” with Janelle Monáe performing Michael Jackson’s “Don’t Stop ’til You Get Enough.” The In Memoriam segment included a tribute to Liam Payne, accompanied by Chris Martin singing “All My Love.”

Kendrick Lamar emerged as the night’s biggest winner, securing Song of the Year, Record of the Year, Best Rap Song, Best Rap Performance, and Best Music Video for “Not Like Us.” The Los Angeles County Fire Department presented Album of the Year to Beyoncé for Cowboy Carter, marking her first win in this top category. Doechii made history by becoming the third woman to win Best Rap Album for Alligator Bites Never Heal.

Sabrina Carpenter won Best Pop Vocal Album for Short N’ Sweet and Best Solo Pop Performance for “Espresso.” Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars received Best Pop Duo/Group Performance. Charli XCX claimed her first Grammys, taking home Best Dance/Electronic Music Album for Brat and Best Dance Pop Recording for “Von Dutch.” Chris Brown received Best R&B Album for 11:11 (Deluxe), and Shakira won Best Latin Pop Album for Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran.

In the Rock categories, St. Vincent was notably successful, winning Best Rock Song and Best Alternative Music Performance for “Flea,” along with Best Alternative Music Album for All Born Screaming. The Rolling Stones won Best Rock Album for Hackney Diamonds, while the Beatles earned Best Rock Performance for “Now and Then.” Best Metal Performance was awarded to Gojira, Marina Viotti & Victor le Masne for “Mea Culpa (Ah! Ça ira!).”

In the Country categories, Beyoncé was the standout winner, securing Best Country Album for Cowboy Carter and Best Country Duo/Group Performance for “II Most Wanted” with Miley Cyrus. Kacey Musgraves received Best Country Song for “The Architect,” and Chris Stapleton won Best Country Solo Performance for “It Takes a Woman.” Sierra Ferrell’s Trail of Flowers won Best Americana Album, with “American Dreaming” taking Best Americana Performance and Best American Roots Song, and “Lighthouse” winning Best American Roots Performance. Gillian Welch & David Rawlings’ Woodland took Best Folk Album, while Billy Strings’ Live Vol. 1 was awarded Best Bluegrass Album.
