U.S. 93 stretch between Las Vegas, Phoenix to be widened

The Arizona Department of Transportation has announced the start of a nearly $81 million project to widen a four-mile stretch of U.S. Highway 93 between Wikieup and Interstate 40. This section is being expanded from two lanes to four lanes, with work expected to be completed by 2027. The project includes the construction of two new bridges over Crane Springs Wash and the demolition of the existing bridge near milepost 109. Additionally, improvements will be made to drainage and sediment-control facilities, and the intersection turnout at Upper Trout Road will be reconstructed.

The majority of the construction will take place just off the current highway, minimizing the impact on motorists. This is part of a broader plan to transform U.S. 93 into a four-lane divided highway between Wickenburg and Hoover Dam. As part of this effort, the transportation department has secured a $26 million grant to extend a previously planned project by 1.27 miles, adding another 4.5 miles of four-lane highway between Wickenburg Ranch Way and just northwest of state Route 89. This will connect with a recently completed project that widened a five-mile stretch of U.S. 93 in Wickenburg.
