Mel Gibson recently directed a film starring Mark Wahlberg in Southern Nevada and expressed interest in making a sequel, potentially turning it into a franchise. He praised both Wahlberg’s industrious nature and the production experience in Las Vegas, highlighting the city’s capability to accommodate large-scale film projects.
The film, titled “Flight Plan,” features Wahlberg as a pilot navigating a tense journey across Alaska with an Air Marshal and a fugitive on board. Some scenes were filmed at Mesquite Airport, showcasing the region’s versatility for different filming needs.
Wahlberg is actively working to build a substantial film industry presence in Las Vegas, having already filmed “Family Plan” and its sequel in the area. Additionally, he supports Senate Bill 238, which proposes a 31-acre studio campus in Summerlin, with the potential to create approximately 18,000 jobs. This initiative involves partnerships with major studios like Sony Pictures Entertainment and Warner Bros. Discovery, seeking significant tax credits to facilitate the project.
Gibson’s recent visit to Las Vegas was not solely for film-related activities. He attended UFC 313 at T-Mobile Arena, enjoying the event alongside notable figures such as FBI Director Kash Patel and business associate Darin Feinstein. Despite his focus on film, Gibson enjoys the vibrant entertainment scene Las Vegas offers.
