Las Vegas Ballpark Plans Approved for 2028 MLB Season Opening

The Athletics are moving forward with plans for their new Las Vegas ballpark, set to open for the 2028 MLB season. The Paradise Town Advisory Board has approved several design aspects and waivers to expedite the project, including reduced parking requirements and landscaping guidelines. The board also allowed for construction materials to be stored on the Tropicana site, where the ballpark will be built. Additionally, Clark County’s planning department has agreed to issue a grading permit before a development agreement is finalized.

The team has filed for a commercial grading permit to start preliminary work on the $1.75 billion stadium, which will accommodate 33,000 fans. This approach mirrors the phased construction strategy used for Allegiant Stadium. The A’s are working closely with Clark County to manage the phased approach while finalizing a development agreement.

A timeline has been established, with construction expected to begin between April and June, following a 31 to 33-month schedule. If the project commences in June and takes the full 33 months, completion is projected for March 2028.

The A’s are also seeking a reduction in required parking spaces from 7,650 to 2,470, citing a study that identifies 49,000 parking spots within walking distance of the stadium. This setup would make it the only urban MLB stadium with more nearby parking than seating capacity. The plan includes reconfiguring nearby intersections and building a pedestrian bridge to improve traffic flow on game days. Alternative transportation options, such as ride-hailing services, public buses, and the Las Vegas Monorail, are expected to support the reduced parking plan.
