The Boring Co.’s Vegas Loop has recently expanded with the opening of the Encore station, marking its second location on the Las Vegas Strip. This development is part of the growing underground people mover system that initially launched at the Las Vegas Convention Center in 2021. The Encore station is the third to open outside the convention center, following Resorts World and Westgate.
The launch of the Encore station coincided with the National Association of Broadcasters convention, which is expected to attract over 60,000 attendees. Steve Hill, president and CEO of the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority, highlighted the convenience the new station provides to attendees, offering a quick two-minute ride to the convention center.
Currently, a single tunnel connects Encore to the convention center, with a second tunnel planned to be operational later this year. Until then, traffic will be managed to allow for directional travel. The machine for the second tunnel is already in place, with expectations of completing the system soon.
The convention center itself features four stations, with three located in various expo halls and an additional Riviera Station in the parking lot near the west hall. Additionally, work is progressing on the University Center Loop, which will connect locations near UNLV’s Thomas & Mack Center to the convention center’s Silver Lot. This segment will include stations at Virgin Hotels Las Vegas and a nearby planned multifamily residential unit.
The complete Vegas Loop is expected to span 68 miles with 104 stations, designed to transport passengers via Tesla vehicles. Once fully operational, the system aims to serve 90,000 passengers per hour. However, a full completion date has not yet been announced.
