California Woman Wins $15 Million in Las Vegas Slip-and-Fall Lawsuit Against MGM Resorts

In a recent legal case in Las Vegas, a Bakersfield, California woman named Deborah Fenton was awarded a $15 million judgment in a negligence lawsuit against MGM Resorts International and The Cosmopolitan. The verdict, delivered by a jury in the Clark County District Court under District Judge Eric Johnson, allocated specific amounts for various damages: $261,751 for past medical expenses, $976,614 for future medical expenses, $1.4 million for past physical and mental suffering, and $12.3 million for future pain and suffering.

The lawsuit, filed on April 20, 2023, stemmed from an incident on September 24, 2021, when Fenton, a guest at The Cosmopolitan, slipped and fell at the Chandelier Bar due to a reportedly unsafe condition involving water and glass. While the lawsuit did not detail the specific injuries suffered by Fenton, the awarded damages underline the impact on her life.

MGM Resorts International, which acquired The Cosmopolitan in May 2022, was not the owner at the time of the incident. The company has not commented on the verdict or potential plans to appeal. Representatives from the Ace Law Group, who represented Fenton, expressed satisfaction with the verdict, emphasizing the justice served for their client.
