Phish Leads Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Fan Vote with Strong Support

CLEVELAND (AP) — With less than a week remaining in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame fan voting, Phish is leading the pack.

As of the morning of April 16, the jam band has garnered 310,457 votes, placing them ahead of Bad Company with 254,758 votes and Billy Idol with 237,289.

Phish has maintained its lead since voting began in February, and it looks likely they will finish at the top. Fan voting concludes on April 21, allowing fans to vote for up to seven artists once a day. The inductees will be announced later this month.

This marks the first nomination for Phish, who have been eligible since 2014.

“It’s an honor and a thrill, a recognition of our whole scene, of our community,” frontman Trey Anastasio told GQ earlier this year. “That was the first thing we all talked about — that it’s a celebration of this community.”

If Phish is inducted, Anastasio has expressed a desire for Ezra Koenig of Vampire Weekend to do the honors. “I would be honored if Ezra wanted to do it,” Anastasio said. “He is so articulate and smart and from New York and a lovely guy, and I think he gets it. It would be nice if someone could do it who wasn’t a star that was just assigned, someone who doesn’t understand Phish.”
