Drew Baldridge, along with his co-writers, recently gathered at BMI’s Nashville office to celebrate the success of his groundbreaking No. 1 hit, “She’s Somebody’s Daughter.” The celebration had a backyard BBQ vibe, and before the festivities, Baldridge took time to reflect with Country Now and other media outlets on the song’s remarkable journey at country radio and what lies ahead for him.
“She’s Somebody’s Daughter” made history as Baldridge became the first self-released artist to reach the top of the Country Aircheck/Mediabase chart with their debut No. 1. The Illinois native shared that he initially set his sights on a Top 40 single, and the idea of hitting No. 1 seemed far out of reach when they first released the track.
“Everybody asked, ‘What do you hope to get out of this?’ and I said, ‘I don’t have a manager, booking agent, or label. I just hope we can build enough momentum that maybe someone will want to help. If I could just get a booking agent or break into the Top 40, I’d be thrilled.’ And by the grace of God, the song just kept climbing,” Baldridge shared.
