Taylor Swift’s The Eras Tour Book is making waves, following the success of her record-breaking global tour of the same name. According to the Associated Press, Circana BookScan reported that the $39.99 Target-exclusive book, chronicling Swift’s career-spanning tour, sold an impressive 814,000 copies over the Thanksgiving holiday weekend.
This achievement marks the biggest publishing launch of 2024, per Circana, which tracks approximately 85% of the print book market. The sales were easier to track because the book was exclusively sold through Target, a frequent partner of Swift’s, and was part of the retailer’s Black Friday specials.
Circana noted that Swift’s debut is second only to Barack Obama’s A Promised Land for nonfiction launches, which sold 816,000 copies in its first week in 2020. Notably, the Eras Tour Book sales figures covered only two days of availability before the reporting week ended, suggesting the final first-week tally could surpass the initial numbers.
The Wall Street Journal reported high expectations for the release, with a source familiar with the rollout indicating a first print run of two million copies. For comparison, 2023’s best-selling book, Colleen Hoover’s It Ends With Us, sold nearly 1.3 million print copies across multiple retailers.
This publishing success adds to a banner week for Swift, who also received news from the Recording Industry Association of America that her 11th album, The Tortured Poets Department, has been certified 6x Platinum. This milestone makes it her sixth album to surpass six million U.S. sales, joining her 2006 self-titled debut, 2008’s Fearless (her only Diamond-certified album), 2010’s Speak Now, 2012’s Red, and 2014’s 1989.
Swift is set to kick off the final leg of her Eras Tour on Friday, in Vancouver at BC Place.
