Gene Simmons has been touring solo with the Gene Simmons Band since KISS’s final show in December 2023. Unlike the large-scale productions of KISS, Simmons’ solo tour is a stripped-down affair with minimal crew and no elaborate stage setups. This approach allows Simmons to pocket more money by keeping expenses low. The band travels light, typically renting equipment locally for shows, which saves on costs. Simmons appreciates the flexibility and informality of this setup, describing it as similar to a neighborhood jam session. Guitarist Brent Woods highlights that this method benefits everyone financially. Simmons doesn’t require the typical rock star accommodations, making the tour more adaptable and cost-effective. This approach, while not new, harkens back to how artists like Chuck Berry used to tour with minimal resources. Woods adds that this touring method is akin to the “weekend warrior” approach, where bands perform a few shows over weekends. His experience as a musician has taught him how to manage tours effectively, building a network of professionals to assist in various cities.
