Sarah Michelle Gellar Embraces the Possibility of a Buffy Reboot with a Fresh Perspective

Sarah Michelle Gellar has recently expressed a newfound openness to the idea of a “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” reboot, a significant shift from her previous stance. During an appearance on The Drew Barrymore Show, she shared her thoughts, saying, “I always used to say no, because it’s in its bubble and it’s so perfect.” However, after watching shows like “And Just Like That…” and “Dexter: Original Sin,” she realized there are ways to revisit the story. While she is not interested in a prequel, she acknowledges that there are numerous possibilities for a new series, emphasizing the importance of heroes in today’s world.

The original series, created by Joss Whedon, ran from 1997 to 2003 and gained a devoted fan base. It was based on a 1992 film written by Whedon and inspired various merchandise, including novels, comics, and video games. Despite her previous reluctance, Gellar now sees potential in continuing the story, focusing on themes of female empowerment. She appreciated how the original series concluded with the idea that “every girl who has the power can have the power,” allowing room for new stories to emerge.
