In a recent conversation with J.J. Caithcart of Different Stages Radio, Casandra Carson, the vocalist and guitarist for PARALANDRA, discussed the progress of THE L.I.F.E. PROJECT, her collaboration with Josh Rand, guitarist for STONE SOUR. She mentioned that she plans to return to the studio for further recording in the second week of January, just before starting a tour. They aim to release two EPs in 2025. Casandra noted that they have been refining these songs for about three years, ensuring they reach their full potential. She expressed satisfaction with the latest mixes and mentioned that she has one or two songs left to record, with the release expected later this year.
Discussing the release strategy for the new EPs, Casandra explained that they are operating independently, without a record label. The release schedule is still being finalized, and they hope Josh can perform live shows again, although his physical readiness, particularly concerning his back, is a key consideration. In May 2024, during an interview with the Nothing Shocking podcast, she revealed that Josh had resumed playing guitar after recovering from back surgery. They have written and recorded five songs but are waiting to tour and support the release. Balancing her commitments to PARALANDRA and THE L.I.F.E. PROJECT is challenging for Casandra. While PARALANDRA practices regularly in Springfield, Missouri, working with Josh involves a different process, with tracks being recorded individually and sent for completion.
THE L.I.F.E. PROJECT released a new single, “Dying Of The Light,” in September 2022, and they supported ALICE IN CHAINS, BREAKING BENJAMIN, and BUSH on a U.S. tour that year. Their live debut was on April 30, 2022, in Springfield. Josh Rand described THE L.I.F.E. PROJECT as a musical exploration, blending his roots with new creative expressions. He collaborated with Casandra after being introduced by a mutual acquaintance. The project allows him to revisit his musical origins with the benefit of experience and knowledge.
In March 2022, THE L.I.F.E. PROJECT released a four-song EP titled “Big F.O.U.R.” through Bloodblast, featuring covers of iconic bands like METALLICA, SLAYER, MEGADETH, and ANTHRAX. Josh expressed that this project was a long-held desire and a way to honor these influential bands. The EP captures the essence of the original tracks while incorporating THE L.I.F.E. PROJECT’s unique sound. Stylistically, the project blends classic metal influences with modern heavy music elements. Their debut self-titled EP was released in summer 2021, available through their webstore and Nuclear Blast. Their single “The Nothingness” received significant playlist attention on major streaming platforms and was featured on SiriusXM Octane’s “Test Drive” show.
