The Athletics have taken a significant step forward in their plans to build a new ballpark in Las Vegas by filing for a land use permit. This application is crucial for the commencement of construction and follows months of collaboration with Clark County to ensure compliance with zoning regulations.
The detailed submission includes aspects like stadium design, parking, building height, and sustainability efforts. The Federal Aviation Administration has accepted the necessary submittals, currently marked as “work in progress,” with the ballpark’s height listed at 320 feet. Waivers for development standards, such as parking and landscaping reductions, are also part of the proposal.
The next steps involve the county reviewing the application, which must be approved at future Town Advisory Board and Clark County Commission meetings. The A’s aim to start construction between April and June, with a completion target in 2028, aligning with the MLB season’s opening.
In parallel, the A’s need to finalize development and performance agreements with the county. Contractor Morse Electric has already applied for a permit to set up temporary electrical infrastructure, valued at $530,000, which is under county review.
The ballpark’s funding comprises a $1.1 billion equity injection from A’s owner John Fisher’s family, $350 million of public funding, and a $300 million construction loan from financial institutions. The A’s are required to invest the first $100 million before accessing public funds.
Adjacent to the ballpark, Bally’s Corporation plans to develop a resort on a 35-acre site, with 9 acres for the ballpark, 14.7 acres for the resort, and 11.3 acres for shared spaces. Bally’s intends to begin construction simultaneously with the A’s, with the first phase including a hotel, casino, and dining facilities. The full resort will eventually feature over 3,000 hotel rooms and extensive gaming and entertainment options.
Bally’s Chairman Soo Kim expressed confidence in the project, emphasizing its potential to complement the new stadium.
