Rik Emmett, guitarist for Triumph, revealed he was recently hospitalized after a severe case of food poisoning.
Emmett shared the news in a Facebook post Thursday, saying he had to take an ambulance to the emergency room.
“I can cross off ‘Ambulance Ride to Emergency’ from my bucket list,” Emmett wrote. “Who knew that food poisoning could start with vertigo so bad one imagines they are having a stroke?”
He spent eight hours in the emergency room receiving treatment and described the experience as humbling.
“You’ll gain all kinds of perspective for humility and gratitude as you witness folks having far, far worse days than yourself,” he wrote.
Emmett has since recovered and was able to return home in time for a late-night cup of tea. His recovery comes as he prepares to release his new album, Ten Telecaster Tales, on March 1. The all-instrumental album is available in a limited edition of 200 copies and comes with an extensive book of liner notes.
Emmett is set to perform two sold-out shows at the Redwood Theatre in Toronto on April 10 and 11. The concerts will feature a full performance of Ten Telecaster Tales, followed by a set with longtime collaborator Dave Dunlop, including songs from their Troubs duo project and Triumph classics.
