“Pawn Stars,” a staple on the History channel for 16 years, is currently on indefinite hiatus. Rick Harrison, the show’s star, recently announced that the series is no longer under contract with History, leaving its future uncertain. However, Harrison hinted at a potential “Pawn Stars 2.0” in the future.
The pause comes as the current season concludes in April, with no scheduled plans to resume filming. A notable change for any future iteration is the likely absence of Corey Harrison, Rick’s son, who has portrayed “Big Hoss” since the show’s inception. Corey has moved to Tulum, Mexico, and expressed no interest in returning to the show or entering new contract discussions with History. He mentioned that portraying a younger version of himself no longer felt genuine.
In Tulum, Corey Harrison has embraced a new lifestyle, befriending local figures like the mayor and venturing into business by developing a barbecue restaurant named Big Hoss’s Smokin’ Joint. Meanwhile, Rick Harrison and Austin “Chumlee” Russell have launched a podcast titled “Pawn After Dark,” featuring guests like Lou Ferrigno and Forrest Griffin, although Corey is not involved.
“Pawn Stars” has been a global phenomenon, airing approximately 700 episodes across 25 seasons, and has been broadcast in 150 countries. The series has also spawned spin-offs, including “Pawn Stars Do America,” “American Restoration,” and “Counting Cars.”
Despite its uncertain future, the show’s format, centered on unique items and pawn negotiations, remains timeless and continues to attract viewers through reruns. Reflecting on the series, Corey Harrison acknowledges the need to prepare for the future and is ready to move on from the show after years of dedication.
