Shaboozey’s “A Bar Song (Tipsy)” has claimed its 35th week at the top of Billboard’s multi-metric Hot Country Songs chart, setting a new record for the longest-leading title by a single act. The track surpassed Sam Hunt’s “Body Like a Back Road,” which led for 34 weeks in 2017. Since Hot Country Songs began in 1958, only “Meant to Be” by Bebe Rexha and Florida Georgia Line has spent more time at No. 1, with 50 weeks starting in December 2017.
On the chart dated March 1, “A Bar Song” achieved 59.8 million in all-format airplay audience, 16.2 million official U.S. streams, and 4,000 copies sold from Feb. 14-20, according to Luminate.
The song, co-written by Shaboozey, whose real name is Collins Obinna Chibueze, first ascended to the Hot Country Songs summit last May. It also spent a record-tying 19 weeks at No. 1 on the all-genre Billboard Hot 100 and a record-breaking 27 weeks atop the all-format Radio Songs chart.
Released on American Dogwood/EMPIRE, with country radio promotion by Magnolia Music, “A Bar Song (Tipsy)” also dominated Country Airplay for seven weeks starting last August. This marked the longest reign for an artist’s debut on the chart. Additionally, it became the first song to reach the top five on Country Airplay, Pop Airplay, Adult Pop Airplay, and Rhythmic Airplay.
When “A Bar Song” initially reached the pinnacle of Hot Country Songs, it dethroned Beyoncé’s “Texas Hold ‘Em,” marking the first time two Black artists have consecutively led the list.
