As we get closer to the holiday season, I am reminded of how much I look forward to this special time with family and loved ones. I’m sure I’m not alone in feeling more joyful and thankful during this time of the year. While Thanksgiving is a man-made holiday that invites us to give thanks, I want to remind you that Psalm 100 tells us we should always have an attitude of gratitude.
Verse 4: Go through his open gates with great thanksgiving; enter his courts with praise. Give thanks to him and bless his
name. 5 For the Lord is always good. He is always loving and kind, and his faithfulness goes on and on to each succeeding generation.”
I know every day may not feel great. On top of that, you may be dealing with the loss of loved ones who are no longer here to celebrate with you. I know your money is not what you would want it to be and you’re not able to bless others as you would like this year. Life can throw some real hard balls your way and leave you feeling some type of way. But despite all that you’re going through, know that God is still good – and for that we can give thanks.
Even when things seem to be at their worse, when you look beyond in the distance and see the beauty of nature and the earth, you’re seeing God. When you wake up in the morning to an incredibly tough day ahead and look at the person looking back at you in the mirror, you’re seeing God. Psalm 100 reminds us that God is good and everything He made is good. God created you and everything in your space – he’s everywhere, he’s kind, he’s loving and faithful, and He deserves our praise and thanksgiving at all times not just on Thanksgiving Day.
I want to wish you a Happy Thanksgiving. As you go into this holiday season, take a minute to reflect on God’s great works. When you can see the goodness in everything, in spite of what else is happening around you, that’s an attitude of gratitude. Keep that spirit and carry it with you always. Continue to bless the name of the Lord, regardless of what you’re going through. God is faithful and He loves you beyond measure. Bless him and thank him beyond the holiday season.
