Busta Rhymes Turns Himself In Following Alleged Assault on Assistant

Renowned rapper Busta Rhymes, born Trevor Tahiem Smith Jr., is facing multiple assault charges after an alleged altercation with his assistant, Dashiel Gables. The incident reportedly occurred on January 10, 2025, in the lobby of Gables’ condominium in the Dumbo neighborhood of Brooklyn, New York. According to law enforcement sources, the dispute arose over Gables’ phone usage during work hours, escalating to Rhymes allegedly punching Gables several times in the face.

Following the incident, Gables, 50, sustained swelling to his left eye and was transported to a local hospital for treatment. On January 14, Rhymes, 52, turned himself in to the New York Police Department. He was subsequently charged with third-degree assault, attempted assault, and harassment. The rapper received a desk appearance ticket, requiring him to appear in court on February 2, 2025.

When approached for comment, Gables stated that his lawyer advised him against speaking to the press to avoid jeopardizing a potential settlement, which he estimated could be between six to seven million dollars.

This incident adds to Rhymes’ history of legal issues, including previous arrests for gun possession in 1998, assault and drunk driving in 2008, and a 2015 incident involving the alleged throwing of a protein drink, for which he attended anger management classes.

Despite these legal challenges, Busta Rhymes continues to maintain an active presence in the entertainment industry. He recently released his 11th studio album, “Blockbusta,” and is involved in the upcoming “Naked Gun” reboot.

As the case progresses, further details are anticipated to emerge, shedding more light on the circumstances surrounding the alleged assault.
