Carlos Santana, 77, postponed his planned performance at the Majestic Theatre in San Antonio, Texas, on Tuesday night, April 22, after being hospitalized due to dehydration. The musician reportedly fell ill during soundcheck, prompting his manager, Michael Vrionis, to announce the postponement.
“It is with profound disappointment that I have to inform you all that tonight’s show in San Antonio has been postponed,” Vrionis said in a statement. “Mr. Santana was at the venue preparing for tonight’s show when he experienced an event that was determined to be dehydration. Out of an abundance of caution and for the health of Mr. Santana, the decision to postpone the show was the most prudent course of action. He is doing well and looks forward to returning to San Antonio soon, as well as continuing his U.S. tour.”
Santana is currently on his 2025 Oneness tour, and Vrionis stated that the San Antonio concert will be rescheduled “soon,” advising ticketholders to retain their tickets for the new date.
As of press time, Santana was still scheduled to perform at the Smart Financial Centre at Sugar Land in Sugar Land, Texas, on Wednesday, April 23; Lucas Oil Live at WinStar in Thackerville, Oklahoma, on Friday, April 25; and the River Spirit Casino Resort in Tulsa, Oklahoma, on Saturday, April 26. A performance in Nashville on Tuesday, April 29, is also planned before Santana takes the tour to Europe for a summer series of concerts. It remains unclear if Tuesday’s incident will affect the upcoming shows on the tour, which began in Highland, California, on April 16.
Attempts to reach a spokesperson for Santana regarding the impact of Tuesday’s incident on future performances were unsuccessful at press time.
In 2022, Santana canceled six shows after collapsing on stage in Detroit due to what Vrionis described as heat exhaustion. The rock icon also canceled a series of December shows in 2021 following an “unscheduled heart procedure.”
