Celebrating 20 Years of Ka: Cirque du Soleils Timeless Las Vegas Spectacle

“Ka” is a groundbreaking Cirque du Soleil production that celebrated its 20th anniversary, known for being the first Cirque show with a complete narrative arc. It follows a brother and sister through their journey into adulthood, exploring themes of love, conflict, and the symbolic duality represented by “Ka,” the fire that can both unite and divide.

Despite industry shifts towards more star-studded or immersive experiences, “Ka” remains a staple on the Las Vegas Strip. It’s under contract through 2026, with Cirque’s chief revenue officer confirming its continued success and renewal prospects.

The show boasts impressive numbers: it’s played to 11.5 million fans, features 24 original cast members, and cost $80 million in theater renovations. The production is technically advanced, with 4,000 speakers, including in-seat audio, and 3,000 lighting instruments. The theater seats 1,950, with performances involving 250 artists and crew.

The Sand Cliff Deck, a stage highlight, measures 25 by 50 feet, pivotal for the Final Battle scene. The show uses 326 pairs of shoes and 500 props per performance, requiring significant preparation, including 30-90 minutes for cast makeup.

“Ka” is part of a legacy of long-running Cirque shows in Las Vegas, trailing only “Mystere” and “O” in longevity. With 8,600 performances, it stands as a testament to Cirque du Soleil’s enduring appeal and innovation.
