Charlie Puth Bids Farewell to TikTok as U.S. Ban Looms

Charlie Puth is saying goodbye to his TikTok followers as the United States prepares to implement a ban on the app.

The singer-songwriter shared a video of himself playing piano on the platform. Positioned beside his keyboard, Puth performed a somber rendition of his 2015 hit with Wiz Khalifa, “See You Again,” which spent 12 weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100. His arrangement added melancholy chords to the track’s bittersweet melody.

“Farewell TikTok,” Puth captioned the video. “Although this isn’t goodbye…”

In the comments, Puth teased, “I’ll be back soon.” Fans responded emotionally, with one writing, “Charlie, you know this is gonna make everyone cry,” while another added, “Charlie, this will actually make me crash out.”

Puth’s post coincided with the Supreme Court’s decision to uphold a federal statute effectively banning TikTok in the U.S. The ban, set to take effect Sunday (Jan. 19), stems from national security concerns over the app’s Chinese parent company, ByteDance. The company has argued that the ban violates First Amendment protections, but those claims have been rejected.

President-elect Donald Trump, who takes office Monday (Jan. 20), has pledged to “negotiate a resolution” to save the app. TikTok CEO Shou Zi Chew expressed gratitude for Trump’s support, stating, “We are hopeful that a resolution can be reached to preserve our platform and the creative community it fosters.”

Puth isn’t the only celebrity bidding farewell to TikTok. Kesha also shared a playful goodbye video this week, pairing a clip of herself with her 2009 hit “TiK ToK.” In her caption, she wrote, “TikTok might be temporary, but TiK ToK is forever.”
