Clark County School Board Narrows Superintendent Search to Four Candidates

The Clark County School Board has made adjustments to its list of candidates for the superintendent position, deciding to interview four individuals next week. The candidates include Jhone Ebert, John Anzalone, Ben Shuldiner, and Jesse Welsh, who was newly added to the list. Ebert leads Nevada’s Department of Education, Anzalone is a superintendent in Washington state, Shuldiner is a superintendent in Michigan, and Welsh is in charge of a charter school in Nevada.

Initially, a consulting firm recommended six candidates from over 40 applicants for the board’s consideration. However, the board exercised its option to modify this list during a recent meeting. They unanimously voted to remove Pedro Martinez and also decided to exclude Jason Glass, citing concerns about his fit for the district despite his qualifications.

Joshua Starr, another candidate, withdrew his application prior to the board meeting, as reported by Shawn Joseph from the consulting firm. The district has been searching for a permanent leader since the resignation of former Superintendent Jesus Jara in February 2024. Interim Superintendent Brenda Larsen-Mitchell has announced she will not be seeking the permanent role.
