Diddy may have numerous lawsuits to deal with, alongside his federal criminal case, but he can now set aside one of those legal battles. According to court documents obtained by In Touch, a federal Michigan court has dismissed a $400 million sexual assault lawsuit against him brought by male accuser Derrick Lee Cardello-Smith. The dismissal is reportedly due to the claims being outside the statute of limitations in the state, relating to an alleged incident at a Holiday Inn in 1997. The federal judge dismissed the case with prejudice, meaning Cardello-Smith cannot file this suit again or initiate another one with similar claims. However, the court declined Diddy’s request for punitive sanctions, choosing instead to caution Cardello-Smith against making “duplicative, frivolous, or harassing filings.” Cardello-Smith accused Sean Combs of allegedly spiking his drink at a 1997 event at a Holiday Inn, which he claims caused him to fall asleep. He further alleged that upon waking, he witnessed the music mogul with a woman and claimed Combs told him, “I did this to you, too.” Combs’ legal team has consistently denied these allegations. In another development concerning Diddy’s legal issues, there has been a response to one of his prominent legal challenges: a sexual assault lawsuit involving him and Jay-Z. Attorney Tony Buzbee, representing the anonymous accuser, criticized Jay-Z’s attempts to impose sanctions on him through a new legal filing. Nonetheless, the accusations exchanged by both sides still require validation in a court of law. Amidst this ongoing legal turmoil, Diddy continues to attract attention from the hip-hop community and beyond. For instance, 50 Cent recently shared an old video of Diddy expressing a desire for friendship, adamantly stating his disinterest in any association. Although the dismissal of this lawsuit does not significantly alleviate Diddy’s legal troubles, future developments will reveal if other cases might be similarly resolved.
