Diving into Emotion Lacuna Coil’s Cristina Scabbia Takes Her Art Underwater

Lacuna Coil’s Cristina Scabbia is not one to shy away from challenges for her art. During an interview, she revealed that it was her own suggestion to perform the underwater suffocation scenes in the band’s recent “Oxygen” music video. Originally, there were plans for a stunt actress to take on the role, but Scabbia believed it would be more impactful for fans to see her experience the scenes firsthand.

She explained that it would help viewers empathize with the feeling of suffocation and being trapped in a toxic relationship, whether it be a romantic, work, or friendship gone wrong. The conversation also touched on Lacuna Coil’s upcoming album, Sleepless Empire, which features a contribution from Randy Blythe of Lamb of God. They discussed the creation of the album, the expectations placed on artists regarding social media, and the process of crafting a setlist at this stage in their career.
