D’Wayne Wiggins, a pivotal figure in R&B and co-founder of the renowned group Tony! Toni! Toné!, passed away on March 7, 2025, at the age of 64, following a private battle with bladder cancer.

Born and raised in Oakland, California, Wiggins formed Tony! Toni! Toné! in 1986 alongside his brother Raphael Saadiq and cousin Timothy Christian Riley. The trio became instrumental in the New Jack Swing movement, seamlessly blending R&B, hip-hop, pop, dance, and jazz elements. Their debut album, Who? (1988), featured hits like “Little Walter” and “Baby Doll,” earning a gold certification. The follow-up, The Revival (1990), achieved platinum status, propelled by the success of singles such as “Feels Good.”

The group’s 1993 album, Sons of Soul, included chart-toppers like “If I Had No Loot” and garnered a Grammy nomination for Best R&B Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal for the track “Anniversary.” Tony! Toni! Toné! continued their success with *House of Music* in 1996 before taking a hiatus. They reunited in 2023 for the “Just Me and You” tour, reaffirming their lasting impact on the R&B scene.
