Erica Mena has publicly apologized to Nicki Minaj, acknowledging that she was manipulated into speaking negatively about the rap icon by their mutual ex, Safaree Samuels. During a heartfelt conversation on the Dumb Blonde podcast, Mena reflected on her actions and expressed regret for her role in perpetuating false narratives about Minaj.
“I owe her the biggest apology,” Mena began, admitting that she allowed Safaree’s influence to cloud her judgment. “It’s funny how life comes full circle. Because the same thing he did to her, he’s doing to me years later.”
Mena revealed that Safaree often badmouthed Minaj in her presence, even showing her videos of the Pink Friday 2 rapper “reacting” to various incidents. Trusting his version of events, Mena says she never questioned his motives until later realizing that Safaree was allegedly attempting to undermine Minaj’s career and take credit for her success.
“I sat here and allowed him to talk about her to me,” Mena admitted. “From that came me saying things, defending him, and speaking about her in a tacky way. At the end of the day, I didn’t know the truth. Everything she has ever said about him is true.”
The apology comes as Mena reflects on her tumultuous relationship with Safaree, with whom she shares two children.
Mena’s acknowledgment of past mistakes marks a significant step in addressing the years of tension between her and Minaj, including comments where she previously criticized the rapper’s music. Mena hopes to turn the page and take accountability for her actions.
