FatBoy Slim No Longer Has “Passion” For Making Music

Fatboy Slim has admitted that he has lost his “passion for making music” in a recent interview.

Speaking with The Sun, the legendary DJ and producer shared his feelings about his changing priorities. “The thing is, you can’t make music unless you’re absolutely passionate about it and it drives you from the moment you wake up in the morning. I just don’t seem to feel like that anymore,” he said.

While he remains enthusiastic about DJing and live performances, the big beat pioneer explained why he’s stepped back from producing new music. “I feel like that about DJing and about putting on things like this, but I’ve kind of lost my passion for making music,” he admitted. “For five years, I tried to beat myself up about it and go, ‘You should be doing this.’ But then I thought, ‘Well, everybody likes my DJing and I enjoy that more, so I’ll do that."”

Despite his current feelings, Fatboy Slim—born Norman Quentin Cook—offered fans a glimmer of hope. “I’m hoping that one day the passion will come back,” he shared.

The artist, who played a pivotal role in popularizing the big beat genre in the 1990s, also revealed that his 2024 singles, “Bus Stop Please” and “Role Model,” were created more casually. “They were made just to play on the side,” he explained.

Looking ahead, Fatboy Slim is set to tour Australia and headline several major music festivals in 2025.
