Grove City Launches Campaign to Enhance Traffic Safety for Pedestrians and Cyclists

Grove City has launched the “Road Safety Starts With Us” campaign to enhance traffic safety awareness and implement roadway changes aimed at reducing accidents. This initiative, which began in 2024, comes in response to a rise in traffic crashes involving “vulnerable road users” — including pedestrians and bicyclists — reported by the city’s Department of Public Safety in 2023.

The campaign’s goal is to introduce additional safety measures to prevent accidents involving pedestrians. According to a report released by the Department of Public Safety on Oct. 7, 2024, these vulnerable road users face a greater risk of injury in collisions with vehicles.

The report outlines immediate and short-term recommendations to improve safety, including repainting crosswalks and traffic stop bars, installing signs at busy intersections, and repairing damaged sidewalks. It also identifies “high-crash roadways” such as Broadway, Hoover Road, and Stringtown Road.

Since the campaign’s launch, Grove City has utilized social media to share safety tips for navigating crosswalks at busy intersections. The full road safety report from the Department of Public Safety is available for public review.
