Hollie Chadwick has been removed from her role as Henderson’s police chief by City Manager Stephanie Garcia-Vause due to conflicting leadership styles. Garcia-Vause communicated to the Henderson Police Department that Chadwick was placed on leave and informed her employment would end. Although no misconduct was cited, Garcia-Vause expressed doubts about Chadwick’s ability to enhance the department’s culture and operations. Chadwick reportedly did not accept a proposed separation agreement.
The decision has caused tension among city officials, with Councilwoman Carrie Cox expressing disappointment over the handling of Chadwick’s leave. An online petition supporting Chadwick has gained significant traction, and public support was evident during recent council meetings.
Chadwick’s tenure as chief was marked by clashes with police unions, which accused her of “union busting” in 2024. Despite union dissatisfaction, Garcia-Vause stated that the decision was not influenced by political factors or union pressures.
Chadwick, the first female commander to oversee a SWAT team in Nevada, has been with the Henderson Police Department since 2002. Her attorney, Paul Padda, emphasized her integrity and hinted at potential legal action, seeking to clear her name.
The announcement has reportedly upset many officers within the department and highlighted tensions between the police and city leadership. Former Sgt. Chad Atkin criticized the city’s handling of the situation during a recent council meeting. Meanwhile, the city is moving quickly to appoint a new chief, with Deputy Chief Itzhak Henn currently serving as acting chief.
