North Las Vegas Mayor Pamela Goynes-Brown spoke at the vigil, highlighting Roscow’s bravery and his ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty. She emphasized the significance of his actions and the profound loss felt by the community.
According to the North Las Vegas Police Department, the incident began when officers responded to a report of Alexander Mathis pointing a gun at someone. Mathis fled upon the officers’ arrival, and Roscow engaged with him, resulting in an exchange of gunfire. Both Roscow and Mathis were killed in the confrontation.
The event was organized by the department in collaboration with the Injured Police Officers Fund, an organization that supports officers and their families following injuries or deaths in the line of duty. The vigil served as a moment for the community to come together, reflect on Roscow’s service, and extend support to his family.
