Here we go again with another Hot 10 recap, and Bad Bunny has gained some steam. Does he reach number 1? Well let’s open up the Billboard Hot 100 chart for this week and find out.
Starting at 10 this week, Gracie Abrams with “That’s So True,” The line “Smiling through it all, yeah, that’s my life” was inspired by a 2018 Instagram post from LeBron James, where he captioned a photo with “Smiling through it all! Can’t believe this is my life.”
Down from 6 is Teddy Swims with “Lose Control” at number 9. He just released his follow up to his breakout album in “I’ve Tried Everything But Therapy, Part 2,” We’ll be keeping our eyes on which song will gain the popularity Lose Control did last year.
Jumping almost 20 notches to 8 is one of three entries from Bad Bunny. The first is “Nuevayol“. The track opens with a sample from the 1975 salsa classic “Un Verano en Nueva York” by El Gran Combo de Puerto Rico, seamlessly blending traditional salsa with modern reggaetón and dembow rhythms.
“Birds of a Feather” from Billie Eilish flies down to the 7 spot this week. Did you know, when she recorded her breakout hit “Ocean Eyes”, she was only 13 years old, and it was originally written by her brother, Finneas, for his band. Billie uploaded it to SoundCloud just to share it with her dance teacher, but it unexpectedly went viral overnight, launching her career!
Kendrick Lamar’s love letter to the late Luther Vandross returns to number 6 this week with “Luther,” Vandross was a legend, and Kendrick is too. In fact, he became the first non-jazz or classical artist to win the Pulitzer Prize for Music with his album “DAMN.” in 2018. The Pulitzer board described it as a “virtuosic song collection unified by its vernacular authenticity and rhythmic dynamism,” cementing Lamar as not just a rapper but a cultural and literary icon.
Rose and Bruno keep the game going at 5 with “APT.” It has been a historic week for the song, as it became the first K-Pop number one on Billboard’s Pop Airplay survey. Not even BTS or PSY made it to number one when they were atop the Hot 100. Congratulations!
Shaboozey falls to 4 this week with “A Bar Song (Tipsy),” His unique stage name originated from a high school football coach’s mispronunciation of his surname, Chibueze. Embracing this playful twist, he adopted “Shaboozey” as his moniker, which has since become synonymous with his innovative blend of country and hip-hop music.
Bad Bunny takes home number three and number two this week. “BAILE INoLVIDABLE,” which jumped 25 spots this week and “DTMF” that jumped 35 spots! Talk about a big lead, as we head towards the Grammys next week.
But it wasn’t a big enough jump to dethrone Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars at number one with “Die With a Smile,” Now in it’s third week at the top, Bruno decided he wanted to celebrate this. So he went to the studio with Sexxy Red to record what is described to be a strip club anthem. I don’t know if it’ll make the Hot 100, but as Bruno said “Imma leave the door open,”
So, the big question, does Bad Bunny take the number one spot next time? Tune in Friday night at 8p to find out!
