This weeks Hot 10 is nothing but an upward trek. Many songs pulled from the ten these past months due to Christmas have returned in true fashion to kick off 2025.
Starting at 10, jumping nearly 30 notches is Sabrina Carpenter’s “Taste“. The song blends elements of pop, rock, indie rock, and slacker rock, showcasing Carpenter’s versatility as an artist.
But that’s not all for Sabrina, she also captures number 9 with “Espresso“. I don’t know if any of this had to do with her new drink at Dunkin, but it jumped all the way up here from 46 last week. What a climb!
The song of summer 2024 lands at 8 from 47 last week, Post Malone and Morgan Wallen’s “I Had Some Help”. Upon it’s release, the song received positive reviews for its genre-blending sound and the chemistry between Post Malone and Morgan Wallen. The song achieved commercial success, charting on various platforms and resonating with a wide audience.
Kendrick Lamar lands the 7 spot with “Luther”. Critics have praised “Luther” for its seamless blend of hip-hop and soulful melodies, highlighting the chemistry between Lamar and SZA. The track has garnered significant attention, with fans appreciating the tribute to Vandross’s influence on contemporary music.
Gracie Abrams returns to the ten, landing “That’s So True” at number 6. An interesting aspect of the song is its connection to a 2018 Instagram post by NBA star LeBron James. The line “Smiling through it all, yeah, that’s my life” was inspired by James’ post, which became a popular reaction meme. Abrams and her co-writer, Audrey Hobert, frequently referenced this meme during the songwriting process.
Number 5 belongs to BLACKPINK’s Rose and her duet with Bruno Mars, entitled “APT.” It’s had massive success on the Billboard Global Charts and we knew it would only take a matter of time for this classic to hit the ten.
Ahead of his I Tried Everything but Therapy, Part 2 album, Teddy Swims brings “Lose Control” to number 4. “Lose Control” has been well-received by audiences, with live performances further highlighting Swims’ dynamic stage presence. Notably, he delivered a captivating rendition of the song during Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve with Ryan Seacrest.
Billie Eilish makes her return to number three with “Birds of a Feather” The second single from her third studio album, Hit Me Hard and Soft. The track delves into themes of deep love and the desire for a lasting connection, resonating with listeners worldwide.
Shaboozey made the cut this week too! Landing at number two with “A Bar Song (Tipsy)”. Spending nearly 19 weeks at the top of the charts last week, critics have praised the song for its relatable themes and genre-blending sound, with The Wall Street Journal noting its appeal across diverse audiences.
So, if he’s number two, who’s number one? Well, better late than never, it’s Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars’ duet “Die with a Smile”. Released around Labor Day, it finally gets it’s time to shine at the top of the charts. In fact, it’s the first official number one of 2025!
Now the question is, how long does it last at the top? Can it beat Shaboozey and Lil Nas X’s record of longest reign? Tune in Friday night at 8p to find out. We also have encores Saturdays at 7p and Mondays at 9a on Hot Hits 95.3!
