MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — AC/DC kicked off their long-awaited North American tour Thursday night with a 21-song performance at U.S. Bank Stadium.
Guitarist Angus Young, who turned 70 last month, proved to be ageless as he prowled and duck-walked across the massive stage, leading the band through their biggest hits and two tracks from their latest album, “Power Up.”
This marks the band’s first North American tour since their 2015-2016 Rock or Bust tour. That tour faced several challenges; it was the first without founding rhythm guitarist Malcolm Young, who passed away in 2017 after battling dementia. Drummer Phil Rudd was absent due to legal issues, and singer Brian Johnson had to leave the tour early because of severe hearing problems.
Guns N’ Roses frontman Axl Rose stepped in for Johnson to help finish the tour, after which bassist Cliff Williams announced his retirement from touring. These changes left Angus Young as the only remaining member from the lineup formed in 2014.
Johnson overcame his hearing issues and rejoined the band for their 2024 European tour, alongside Angus Young, Stevie Young, drummer Matt Laug, and bassist Chris Chaney.
The “Power Up” North American tour continues Monday, April 14, in Arlington, Texas, and is scheduled to conclude May 28 in Cleveland. Show and ticket information is available on the band’s official website.
