Jim Carrey Ready to Transform into the Grinch Again with Modern Magic

Jim Carrey has expressed interest in returning to the role of the Grinch more than two decades after he first portrayed the character. Carrey is open to reprising his role in “How the Grinch Stole Christmas 2,” but with one major condition. He mentioned that the original process of getting into the Grinch costume was extremely challenging due to the extensive makeup and prosthetics required, which made it difficult for him to breathe. Carrey recalled that the makeup process was so grueling that he initially told director Ron Howard he couldn’t continue with the movie. However, he persevered with the help of techniques taught by someone trained to help CIA operatives endure torture.

Carrey noted that modern advancements such as motion capture could make the process less taxing and allow him greater freedom in performing. The original film, released in 2000, featured Carrey in a role that became one of his most beloved, and the movie was recognized with an Oscar for Best Makeup. It was also nominated for Best Art Direction and Best Costume Design. The story, based on Dr. Seuss’s 1957 book, follows the Grinch’s attempt to ruin Christmas for the citizens of Whoville, only to have his plans disrupted by the kind-hearted Cindy Lou Who. The film also starred Taylor Momsen, Jeffrey Tambor, Christine Baranski, Bill Irwin, and Molly Shannon.
