Kendrick Lamar’s film with the creators of “South Park” has been rescheduled for release in 2026, according to Variety. The comedy, produced by Paramount and featuring Trey Parker and Matt Stone, is now set to debut on March 20, 2026. Originally, the film was scheduled for release on July 4 of this year.
No reason has been provided for the delay, but the untitled movie will now share the 2026 release calendar with the “I Can Only Imagine” sequel, starring Dennis Quaid. Details about the film’s casting remain limited, though it is known that comedian Vernon Chatman (“Wonder Showzen,” “The Heart, She Holler”) is the primary writer. The film, first announced in 2022, follows an African-American intern who portrays a slave at a local history museum and learns that his white girlfriend’s ancestors owned some of his relatives.
Dave Free of PgLang is producing alongside Lamar. The new release date was confirmed ahead of this week’s CinemaCon in Las Vegas.
The year 2025 was already expected to be significant for Lamar, who recently won Song of the Year and Record of the Year at the Grammy Awards and headlined the Super Bowl LIX Halftime Show.
Additionally, Kendrick Lamar and SZA are preparing for the Grand National Tour, which will visit 19 stadiums across North America. The tour is scheduled to begin in Minneapolis on April 19 and will include stops in cities such as Houston, Philadelphia, New Jersey, Los Angeles, Chicago, Detroit, Toronto, and Washington, D.C.
