Kim Jefferies, a seasoned nonprofit leader, has been appointed CEO of the $200 million “Campus for Hope” project in Las Vegas, designed to support residents facing housing insecurity. The project, set to open in 2027, will provide temporary housing and various resources to help individuals regain stability and avoid returning to homelessness.
The initiative is a public-private partnership, with Nevada funding half of the project and local governments covering operational costs starting in 2027. The facility, inspired by the successful “Haven for Hope” campus in San Antonio, Texas, aims to replicate similar success in reducing homelessness, despite Las Vegas’s unique challenges such as a larger population and a significant housing shortage.
Jefferies plans to implement programs and partnerships offering medical, dental, vision care, counseling, workforce training, and child care to help residents achieve self-sufficiency. The facility will also serve as a data hub for service providers, fostering collaboration across the county.
While some local residents have expressed concerns about the facility’s impact on property values, officials, including Las Vegas Councilman Brian Knudsen, emphasize the project’s potential benefits for both those experiencing homelessness and the surrounding community. Efforts are underway to create a harmonious environment and educate the community on the advantages of the new services.
Jefferies, with extensive experience in nonprofits, is committed to changing lives and ending the cycle of homelessness, viewing the Campus for Hope as a significant piece of the broader puzzle to address housing insecurity in Southern Nevada.
