The Interstate 15/Tropicana interchange project, a significant infrastructure effort in Las Vegas, is approaching major milestones as it nears completion. The $382 million project, which began in 2022, is set to reopen several key ramps and lanes that have been closed for construction, thereby easing traffic flow in the area.
Earlier this month, the I-15 southbound to Tropicana eastbound flyover ramp was reopened, reverting the Tropicana bridge traffic pattern back to its standard flow from the diverging diamond interchange format used during construction. As April progresses, the I-15 northbound off-ramp to Arena and Frank Sinatra drives is scheduled to reopen, providing crucial access to T-Mobile Arena in time for the NHL playoffs.
Further developments are expected in early May, with the reopening of the Tropicana off-ramp from I-15 southbound and the on-ramp from Tropicana to I-15 southbound. Additionally, the fifth lanes in both directions of I-15, which have been reduced to four lanes near Tropicana, will be reopened. This will involve two overnight directional closures to allow for road restriping.
Despite these openings, the project will continue with additional work. In July, repaving of the I-15 stretch between Warm Springs and Flamingo roads will occur using crumb rubber paving for a smoother and quieter ride. The widening of Tropicana west of I-15, between Polaris Avenue and Valley View Boulevard, will continue through the summer, with new lanes on the Tropicana bridge over I-15 going online only after this work is finished.
The project also included significant structural changes, such as the demolition and reconstruction of the Tropicana bridge over I-15, the construction of a high occupancy vehicle half-interchange at Harmon Avenue, and the introduction of Joey Bishop Drive to replace the four-way intersection at Dean Martin and Tropicana. Additionally, new dynamic messaging boards have been installed on portions of I-15 to enhance traffic management. Overall, while the project is near completion, aesthetic elements and final touches will continue into the summer.
