The Weeknd has proven his dedication to closing out 2024 on a high note, setting the stage for a monumental 2025. In September, the pop star performed a one-night-only stadium show in São Paulo, Brazil, debuting three new singles: “Dancing in the Flames,” the Billboard Hot 100 No. 3 hit “Timeless” featuring Playboi Carti, and “São Paulo,” a collaboration with Anitta. He followed this with rescheduled stadium performances in Melbourne and Sydney during his Australian tour in October.
In November, The Weeknd announced his sixth studio album, Hurry Up Tomorrow, slated for release on Jan. 24. To celebrate, he’ll perform another one-night-only stadium show at Pasadena’s Rose Bowl the following day.
Amid these achievements, The Weeknd also became the artist with the most songs—24—to surpass one billion streams on Spotify. To commemorate the milestone, Spotify hosted its first-ever Billions Club Live concert at Santa Monica’s Barker Hangar on Tuesday (Dec. 17), where 1,300 of his top listeners relived his hits.
“It’s a little holiday gift for the OG XO fans supporting me since day one,” The Weeknd told the crowd during his 70-minute set, which opened with blue strobe lights. “2024 is almost done. But 2025, we got some new s–t coming out. New album, new tour, new movie. New everything!”
The upcoming Hurry Up Tomorrow album marks the final installment of his After Hours / Dawn FM trilogy. It will be accompanied by a psychological thriller film of the same name, which will serve as The Weeknd’s feature-starring debut.
For the Canadian-Ethiopian superstar (real name Abel Tesfaye), this trilogy brings his career full circle, echoing the cohesive storytelling of his 2011 debut mixtape House of Balloons. He continues to weave thematic connections throughout his work, with lyrical callbacks like the idiom “this house is not a home,” which he referenced in his After Hours title track and earlier in “Twenty Eight” from House of Balloons.
During the intimate Spotify show, The Weeknd performed his record-breaking hit “Blinding Lights,” the first song to reach four billion Spotify streams and the top Hot 100 song of all time. He ended the night with a teaser for his Hurry Up Tomorrow era, performing a snippet of an unreleased track reportedly titled “In Heaven.”
“In 2025, everything is fine. In 2025, everything will be fine,” he sang. “I’ll come back for you, XO. But until then, hurry up tomorrow! Hurry up tomorrow! Hurry up tomorrow!”
With a new album, film, and tour on the horizon, The Weeknd is poised to make 2025 another groundbreaking year.
