Marilyn Manson has officially dropped his defamation lawsuit against Evan Rachel Wood.
The shock rocker’s legal battle with Evan Rachel Wood began in 2021 after she accused him “grooming” and abuse during their relationship, which began a domino effect of women coming forward against Manson. The following year, Manson filed a defamation suit against Wood claiming emotional distress and defamation due to the rocker losing his record label, TV gigs, and CAA representation as a result of Wood’s claims.
In 2023, a judge dismissed most of Manson’s claim citing California’s anti-SLAPP statute and the protection of Wood’s free speech. Manson has now dropped his claim completely, and will now have to pay $327,000 to cover Wood’s fees.
A representative for Evan Rachel Wood made a comment to Rolling Stone, stating:
“Marilyn Manson filed a lawsuit against Ms. Wood as a publicity stunt to try to undermine the credibility of his many accusers and revive his faltering career. But his attempt to silence and intimidate Ms. Wood failed. As the trial court correctly found, Warner’s claims were meritless. Warner’s decision to finally abandon his lawsuit and pay Ms. Wood her full fee award of almost $327,000 only confirms as much.”
Manson has released his twelfth studio album, One Assassination Under God-Chapter 1 on November 22nd via his new label Nuclear Blast. The album produced three singles “As Sick as the Secrets Within”, “Raise The Red Flag”, and “Sacrilegious”.
