Assembly Bill 156 proposes a significant salary increase for Clark County School Board trustees in Nevada, potentially raising their compensation from $9,000 to nearly $90,000 annually. This adjustment aligns their pay with that of county commissioners, averaging $88,106 per year in Clark County. The bill, sponsored by Assemblymember Erica Mosca, is under consideration and, if approved, would take effect in January 2027 for appointed, elected, or reelected trustees.
The current compensation structure requires trustees, who earn $750 monthly, to maintain other employment alongside their trustee responsibilities. The proposed increase would allow them to consider their trustee role as a full-time position. The bill specifically targets counties with populations exceeding 700,000, which currently only applies to Clark County.
The existing compensation framework remains unchanged for smaller counties, with trustees earning $250 monthly in counties with populations under 20,000, increasing to $400 monthly in counties with populations between 20,000 and 100,000, and $750 monthly for counties with populations between 100,000 and 700,000. Trustees have the option to donate part or all of their salaries to local schools.
