The potential for tariffs has created some market uncertainty, but consumers in Nevada shouldn’t expect dramatic increases in gas prices. The average price for a gallon of unleaded gas in Nevada rose by 4 cents to $3.71, according to AAA Nevada. John Treanor, an AAA spokesman, noted that while fuel prices are always subject to fluctuation, Nevada’s reliance on domestic and Middle Eastern oil provides some protection against potential price spikes in Canadian oil.
President Donald Trump’s discussions about imposing tariffs on imports from Canada, Mexico, and China, including oil, have sparked concerns about possible gas price increases in the U.S. However, Treanor explained that states more dependent on Canadian oil, like those in the Midwest, are more likely to be affected, whereas Nevada is more closely linked to California’s oil market.
Currently, Nevada’s gas prices are among the highest in the nation, ranking fourth after Hawaii, California, and Washington. The national average price for gas increased by two cents to $3.13, according to an AAA survey.
