Nirvana’s Nevermind Reaches 700 Weeks on Billboard 200

Nirvana’s iconic 1991 album, Nevermind, has achieved a remarkable milestone, spending its 700th week on the Billboard 200 chart.

This achievement makes Nevermind only the ninth album in history to reach such an enduring presence on the chart.

Released on September 24, 1991, Nevermind was the Seattle rock band’s second studio album. It quickly became a cultural phenomenon, catapulting Nirvana into global stardom. By January 1992, just months after its release, the album had dethroned Michael Jackson’s Dangerous from the No. 1 spot on the Billboard 200, with sales reaching an astonishing 300,000 copies per week.

The album’s lead single, “Smells Like Teen Spirit,” not only broke into the Top 10 of the Billboard Hot 100 but was later inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame.

Nevermind has also achieved significant commercial success, recently being certified 13-times platinum by the RIAA in the United States and selling over 30 million copies worldwide.

Currently, Nevermind holds the No. 120 spot on the latest Billboard 200 chart, proving its lasting impact on music and culture more than three decades after its release.

Meanwhile, Taylor Swift’s The Tortured Poets Department sits at No. 1 on the chart dated December 21.
