Old Dominion is gearing up to honor their impressive streak as the Country Music Association’s “Vocal Group of the Year” by hosting a series of seven shows at the iconic Ryman Auditorium in Nashville. This mini residency serves as a tribute to their achievements and offers a unique way for the band to connect with their fans.
Lead vocalist and guitarist Matthew Ramsey expressed his admiration for legendary groups like the Oak Ridge Boys, highlighting the honor of being part of such a distinguished lineage of award winners, including Alabama and the Chicks. Reflecting on this, he explained the motivation behind their decision to perform these special shows in Music City.
Ramsey emphasized that the best way to commemorate such accomplishments is through intimate performances, allowing both the band and their fans to come together through music. By opting for smaller, songwriter-focused shows, Old Dominion aims to emphasize the essence of their songs, encourage audience participation through requests, and deliver unique experiences at each event. Ramsey noted that the Ryman Auditorium is the perfect venue for such a celebration.
In addition to providing memorable performances, the band, consisting of Matthew Ramsey, Brad Tursi, Trevor Rosen, Geoff Sprung, and Whit Sellers, will support various charities close to their hearts. The proceeds from each concert will benefit organizations like MusiCares, Save The Music, Backline Care, the Opry Trust Fund, CMA Foundation, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, and The Ramsey Foundation.
Excited about the initiative, Ramsey shared their enthusiasm for combining fun with meaningful causes, inviting fans to bring their signs and join the festivities at the Ryman in February. The “7 for 7” residency will span four days, with performances scheduled for February 3, 4, 5, and 6, and donations directed to seven different charities.
Fans are encouraged to visit the official Ryman website for more information and ticket purchase options. With their seventh consecutive win in the CMA Vocal Group of the Year category, Old Dominion has set a new record, marking a significant milestone in the history of the Country Music Association Awards.
Reflecting on the band’s journey, Ramsey recounted their early days, recalling how they were thrilled when audiences not only attended their shows but also brought friends along. The excitement of hearing their music on the radio was matched by the joy of seeing fans’ reactions during live performances, an experience that profoundly transformed the band’s perspective and solidified their bond with their audience, affectionately known as the Odies.
Throughout their career, Old Dominion has endeavored to create music that uplifts listeners, enhancing joyful moments and providing solace during challenging times. Ramsey acknowledged that the songs written for their fans have also supported the band through their own highs and lows, underscoring the enduring relationship between their music and their loyal followers.
In celebration of their enduring success, Old Dominion recently released “Odies But Goodies,” a 31-track compilation featuring their nine No.1 hits alongside deeper cuts and fan favorites, showcasing the breadth of their musical journey.
