Oscar-Winning Actor Gene Hackman and Wife Found Deceased in New Mexico Home

Gene Hackman, the esteemed Oscar-winning actor, along with his wife Betsy Arakawa and their dog, were found deceased in their New Mexico home. Authorities have stated that foul play is not suspected, though an investigation is still ongoing, and specific circumstances surrounding their deaths have not been disclosed.

Hackman, aged 95, was renowned for his versatile performances across various film genres, earning five Oscar nominations and winning two for his roles in “The French Connection” and “Unforgiven.” He was a prominent figure in the film industry from the 1960s until his retirement in the early 2000s.

Gene Hackman and Betsy Arakawa, who was a classically trained pianist, met in the mid-1980s and later settled in a Southwestern-style home in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Despite stepping away from Hollywood, Hackman remained active in his local community and served on the board of the Georgia O’Keeffe Museum in the 1990s. In his retirement, he focused on writing novels and enjoyed watching films with Arakawa.

Hackman had three children from a prior marriage, and together with Arakawa, they had adopted three German shepherds. Known for his preference for a private life, Hackman was rarely seen in the Hollywood social scene after retiring.
