Phil Collins, a classic rock superstar known for his string of hits in the 1980s, says he has no interest in creating new music due to serious health issues.

In an interview with Mojo magazine, Collins discussed his multiple health problems, including a significant spinal injury he sustained in 2007 that has greatly affected his mobility.

“I keep thinking I should go downstairs to the studio and see what happens,” Collins told Mojo. “But I’m not hungry for it anymore. The thing is, I’ve been sick, I mean very sick…”

Collins, 74, served as the drummer for Genesis from 1970 to 1996 before leaving to focus on a successful solo career. He had already released several solo hits, including “One More Night,” “Against All Odds,” and “In the Air Tonight.”

Collins reunited with the original Genesis lineup, minus Peter Gabriel, for a series of shows in London in 2022. However, he was unable to play the drums and had to remain seated during performances. He has since retired.

“Phil wasn’t in as great a shape as he used to be, but they did a great job,” Gabriel said of the group’s final show in 2022, which he attended but did not perform. “Me going was a rite of passage, really. I’d been part of the creation of Genesis, so I wanted to be there at the end.”

Mojo’s latest issue features interviews with the five original members of Genesis.
