Caleb Wilson, a 20-year-old junior at Southern University and A&M College, was a mechanical engineering major and a dedicated member of the university’s esteemed Human Jukebox Marching Band, where he showcased his talent as a trumpet player.
On February 27, 2025, Caleb tragically lost his life following an off-campus fraternity ritual associated with Omega Psi Phi. The incident, initially misreported as a collapse during a basketball game, was later revealed to involve hazing activities where Caleb was subjected to repeated physical assaults, leading to his untimely death.
In response to this tragedy, Southern University suspended all fraternity and sorority activities and initiated an internal investigation. University President Dennis Shields emphasized the institution’s commitment to uncovering the truth and preventing such incidents in the future.
Caleb’s family has expressed profound grief over the loss of their beloved son and is actively seeking justice to ensure that no other family endures a similar tragedy.
The university community has come together to honor Caleb’s memory. The Human Jukebox Marching Band paid tribute to their fallen member, reflecting on his passion and dedication. Additionally, a memorial second-line parade was held in New Orleans, celebrating Caleb’s life and legacy.
Caleb Wilson’s untimely passing serves as a somber reminder of the dangers associated with hazing practices. His legacy as a scholar, musician, and cherished community member will continue to inspire those who knew him.
