Lil Durk, the rapper whose real name is Durk Banks, was arrested in Florida last month on charges related to a murder-for-hire scheme. He is now facing additional charges that could lead to a life sentence. Durk was arrested on October 25 in Florida, while five members of his hip-hop crew, Only the Family, were detained in California. They are all charged in connection with the murder of Quando Rondo’s cousin in 2022. This act was allegedly in retaliation for the killing of Big Von, who was signed to Durk’s label and was murdered in 2020 by Lul Timm, an associate of Quando Rondo.
The Department of Justice has announced further charges against Durk, including conspiracy, use of interstate facilities to commit murder-for-hire resulting in death, and use of firearms in furtherance of a crime of violence resulting in death. Durk is currently held without bail in Miami and will be transferred to Los Angeles for arraignment.
The others arrested include Kavon London Grant, Deandre Dontrell Wilson, Keith Jones, David Brian Lindsey, and Asa Houston. None of them have entered a plea yet, and they will be arraigned in Los Angeles soon. A representative for Durk did not respond to requests for comment.
Durk, 32, is a significant figure in the Chicago drill music scene, alongside artists like Chief Keef, Lil Reese, and G Herbo. His recent albums have all debuted in the top five on the Billboard 200, and his 2023 single “All My Life” featuring J. Cole reached No. 2 on the Hot 100. It also won a Grammy for best melodic rap performance earlier this year.
According to the indictment, three OTF members—Grant, Wilson, and Houston—were charged, as were Jones and Lindsey, members of other Chicago gangs. The indictment details an altercation in November 2020 at an Atlanta nightclub, where a high-ranking OTF member, assumed to be King Von, was killed. In response, a bounty was allegedly placed on T.B., involved in Von’s murder. In August 2022, the defendants traveled to Los Angeles to murder T.B., ending in the death of Saviay’a Robinson.
All five of Durk’s associates face charges of conspiracy, use of interstate facilities to commit murder-for-hire, and use of firearms, all resulting in death.
