Karen Huger, known for her role on “The Real Housewives of Potomac,” has been convicted of driving under the influence. Huger, aged 61, was found guilty on charges including DUI, negligent driving, failure to control speed to avoid a collision, and failure to notify of a change in address. However, she was acquitted of reckless driving. This verdict follows a car accident in March, as reported by Fox 5 DC. Her sentencing is scheduled for January. USA TODAY reached out to the Montgomery County State’s Attorney’s Office and Huger’s representatives for comments. Her attorney, A. Scott Bolden, expressed disappointment with the jury’s decision and mentioned plans to appeal in pursuit of justice for Huger.
The charges stem from an incident in March when Huger crashed her vehicle in Potomac, Maryland. According to the Montgomery County Police Department, the TV personality crossed a median and struck street signs. In a statement to TMZ in March, Huger described having an emotional dinner with a friend before the accident. She recounted swerving to avoid a head-on collision, which led to her hitting a divider and a tree. Despite sustaining some injuries, Huger expressed gratitude for surviving the crash.
Huger received multiple citations, some unrelated to the incident. She noted that the car that nearly collided with her drove away. Huger urged her fans to be mindful of their emotional state while driving and emphasized the importance of seatbelt use, crediting it with saving her life.
