The Red Hot Chili Peppers are reportedly seeking to sell their recorded music catalog for around $350 million, according to a new Billboard report. This would be in addition to the approximately $140 million that Hipgnosis Songs paid the band for the publishing rights to their music in 2021.
Billboard reports that the Chili Peppers own the rights to all 13 of their studio albums and other releases via Warner Music, though it’s unclear whether they own the rights to their first four albums, which were released under EMI.
The band is currently shopping their recordings for about $350 million, with Billboard estimating the catalog generates roughly $26 million annually. There are even reports suggesting the Chili Peppers may have already reached a deal with Warner Music Group, though this remains unconfirmed.
In total, with the $140 million from Hipgnosis, the Chili Peppers could secure nearly $500 million for all their music assets.
For context, Bruce Springsteen sold his catalog to Sony Music for $500 million in 2021, while Pink Floyd recently sold theirs to Sony for $400 million. The largest known deal for a music catalog, however, was Sony’s $1.27 billion purchase of Queen’s catalog in 2024.
